Nick Moss Band

The North Central Florida Blues Society is excited to have the Nick Moss Band featuring Dennis Gruenling in Gainesville at Heartwood Soundstage on February 28. Moss proudly represents the city of Chicago as one of the few Bluesmen working today to have learned his craft firsthand directly from many of the genre’s original creators, including Jimmy Rogers (Muddy Waters’ right-hand man), Jimmy Dawkins, and Willie “Big Eyes” Smith. Nick Moss has been recognized as one the great guitarists of his generation, and has gained praise from Buddy Guy. Moss’ blistering fretwork, impassioned, soul-charged vocals and memorable original songs place him in a league of his own.

Dennis Gruenling is considered among today’s most innovative and creative blues harmonica players. His high-energy, full-throttle reed work has earned him comparisons to many of the greats, including the late James Cotton. A self-taught player and a natural entertainer with seven solo albums and numerous guest appearances to his credit (including many years with Doug Deming), Gruenling’s giant, fat-toned harp work, raw-boned singing and untamed energy are a perfect foil for Moss’ inspired guitar playing and straight-from-the-shoulder Blues vocals. “Nick Moss is at the forefront of contemporary Chicago Blues. His muscular, electric energy combines jaw-dropping guitar, gruff, soulful vocals and impassioned songwriting.” — Living Blues

Little Mike & the Tornadoes

Opening this show is a perfect fit for a Chicago Blues show - Little Mike & the Tornadoes, well-known for its high-energy blues sound, modeled after the great Chicago bands of the ‘50s. Little Mike is a mean harmonica player who cut his teeth in New York City in the late 1970s and early 1980s, backing up legendary Bluesmen Pinetop Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, and Jimmy Rogers, among many others. Blues Blast Magazine called their music “old-school Blues delivered the right way by folks who feel it down to the core.” Featured performers include Josh Miller and piano legend Jim McKaba.
